Tour Details
Day 1-3 Nairobi

Touch down in Africa at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. The adventure begins! Our representative will be there to meet you and transfer you to Eastland Hotel for dinner and overnight.

Nairobi Excursion

This morning, after your breakfast, your driver-guide will collect you from your hotel and take you to David Sheldrick Elephant orphanage. Daphne Sheldrick was the first person to study the movement pattern of elephant herds and the first person to rescue and hand-rear orphaned elephants. Most of the baby elephants are there because their mothers have been killed by hunters, due to the rise in ivory poaching. Other babies have either been lost in the wild or have been separated from their mothers for unknown reasons. The African elephant calves are hand-reared here with the intention of gradually reintroducing them into the wild once they are strong enough to survive.

Visitors to the centre can see the young elephants interacting with their keepers – playing, taking mud baths and being fed with milk. This is a wonderful sight to watch and a wonderful way to get up close to the babies and observe their playful habits, something which isn’t always possible − or safe − in the wild. The Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage opening hours are from 11am-12 noon daily.

After your visit, head down to the Giraffe Centre. This is a core breeding centre for the endangered Rothschild’s giraffes. You will get to learn more about their adaptations, conservation efforts and you have a chance to hand-feed them on a raised platform.

After your visit to the Giraffe Centre, your driver guide will take you to Utumaduni Craft Centre where you can have lunch at the Verandah Restaurant, after which you can wonder through a converted house containing (about 18) arts and crafts shops.

After lunch, a drive towards Ngong Hills takes you to a village near Ngong home of the renowned writer, Karen Blixen who lived there between 1914 and 1931. This suburb of Karen takes its name from Karen Blixen, a.k.a. Isak Dinesen, a Danish coffee planter and aristocrat who became one of Africa’s most famous writers. Blixen’s subsequent return to Denmark, led to the writing of the definitive tale of European endeavor in Africa “Out of Africa”. You will tour her original house and learn about her life in Africa. Afterwards you will be transferred back to your hotel where you can have dinner or choose to go out to one of the many and varied Nairobi restaurants.
