Touch down in Africa at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. The adventure begins! Our representative will be there to meet you and transfer you to Tamarind Tree Hotel for 2 nights. Conveniently located near the Wilson airport as well as many attractions, Tamarind Tree offers a comfortable stay in the heart of Nairobi.
This morning, after your breakfast, our driver-guide will collect you from your hotel and take you to the Giraffe Centre. This is a core breeding centre for the endangered Rothschild’s giraffes. You will get to learn more about their adaptations, conservation efforts and you have a chance to hand-feed them on a raised platform.
After your visit to the Giraffe Centre, your driver guide will take you to Utumaduni Craft Centre where you can have lunch at the Verandah Restaurant, after which you can wonder through a converted house containing (about 18) arts and crafts shops.
Utamaduni means “cultural heritage” and the Utamaduni Craft Centre encompasses the best of African Art and crafts and supports craftsmen from all over Kenya. Utamaduni Craft Centre has a good selection of goods and the prices are fixed. Utamaduni Craft Centre in Nairobi is the best place to buy souvenirs and all the things that you’ll find at the “souvenir shops” on the highways and byways can be found in one place; good quality, too. No bartering and no disappointments. The centre offers antiques, wood carvings, bronze items, and jewelry of the highest quality. Even if you don’t buy anything, it is very much worth a look around!
After lunch, you’ll have a private viewing at the David Sheldrick Elephant Trust. Dame Daphne Sheldrick was the first person to study the movement pattern of elephant herds and the first person to rescue and hand-rear orphaned elephants. Most of the baby elephants are there because their mothers have been killed by hunters, due to the rise in ivory poaching. Other babies have either been lost in the wild or have been separated from their mothers for unknown reasons. The African elephant calves are hand-reared here with the intention of gradually reintroducing them into the wild once they are strong enough to survive.
Visitors to the centre can see the young elephants interacting with their keepers – playing, taking mud baths and being fed with milk. This is a wonderful sight to watch and a wonderful way to get up close to the babies and observe their playful habits, something which isn’t always possible − or safe − in the wild.
After your time at the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, your driver will take you back to your hotel for a rest and then pick you up at 7:00pm for dinner at the Talisman restaurant. The Talisman is an elegant Gastrolounge with an eclectic twist. Described as “The best place in town” by New York Times Spirited Traveler and one of Kenya’s top-rated restaurants on TripAdvisor.
This morning after your breakfast, our representative will pick you up from your hotel and transfer you to Wilson Airport for your flight to the Masai Mara National Reserve, often referred to as “the safari jewel.” Your Mara flight is scheduled to depart at 10:00 a.m and the flight duration is around 1 hour depending on bush-stop overs. A driver guide from your luxury camp will receive you as you disembark your flight. You will have a game drive en route to the camp where you will settle in at a luxury tented camp at the banks of The Mara River.
Your days will be filled with various activities such as early morning and late afternoon game drives, nature walks, champagne bush breakfasts, sundowners, evening drinks by the campfire, starlit dinners and so much more! Our friendly staff will ensure you have an unforgettable experience. You will have the opportunity to visit a local Masai village to observe the traditional Masai way of life. Our Masai staff will be available to talk about Masai customs and culture around the campfire in the evenings. The more energetic can learn how to shoot with a bow and arrow as well as learn how to throw a spear or rungu.
If you would like, you could enjoy an early morning hot air balloon ride looking out over the stunning landscape of the Mara plains. You might also have a chance to visit the local Maasai village to learn about the customs and way of life of the Maa tribe. Our bespoke approach ensures that your daily routine is flexible and tailored around the particular preferences of each group of guests. On the last day, after your lunch, you will be transferred to the airstrip for your flight to Nairobi.
After your lunch and one last look at the African bush, you will board your flight to Nairobi. You will be met by our representative who will transfer you from Wilson airport to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your flight to Kigali, Rwanda.
Upon arrival at Kigali International, you’ll be met by your Rwanda guide and transferred to the Kigali Serena Hotel where you’ll stay one night on a Bed and Breakfast basis.
After breakfast your guide will meet you at the hotel and transfer you to the Mountain Gorilla View Lodge in Kinigi Rwanda.
Mountain Gorilla View Lodge is located in Kinigi in northern Rwanda and on the edge of the Volcanoes National Park, home to the endangered Mountain Gorillas. The lodge is located on the foothills of the Mount Karisimbi, one of the volcanic mountains that make up the Virunga Massif. The lodge is about 10 minutes’ drive to the main entrance of the Volcanoes National Park where gorilla trekking starts. Mountain Gorilla View Lodge is an ecolodge with 30 spacious chalets. To ensure the least disruption of the surrounding environment, the ecolodge was constructed with locally available material. Every chalet comes with a sitting area with a fireplace and has a tea/coffee making machine. The ecolodge supports the surrounding rural community by purchasing farm-fresh produce that is served in the lodge’s restaurant.
After an early breakfast, your guide will take you to the meeting place for the gorilla trek where you’ll be briefed and then guided through the whole experience. Once you reach the gorilla family, you’ll spend one hour with them before trekking back down the mountain.
Your driver will be waiting for you and will transfer you back to the hotel where you’ll collect your bags and head back to Kigali. You’ll be dropped at the Kigali International airport for your flight back to Nairobi where you’ll connect to your late-night flight back to home
