Nairobi National Park.
Located just 7 kms from Nairobi City Centre, Nairobi National Park is the perfect place for a half-day or full day excursion from the Kenyan capital. One of the only places on earth where you can be on safari with skyscrapers as part of your backdrop, it’s an ideal layover escape or add-on to your existing safari.
A glorious stretch of savannah set against the backdrop of Nairobi’s glittering skyline, Nairobi National Park’s relatively small size makes it all the easier to see all it has to offer in one day.
Home to four of the Big Five, elephants being the notably missing, Nairobi National Park is also home to ostriches, cheetahs, hyenas, antelopes, gazelles, and plenty more.
Daphne Sheldrick Wildlife Trust
This is a small charity established in 1977 to honor famous Naturalist, David Sheldrick, the founding Warden of Tsavo East National Park. You will have a chance to interact with the rescued baby elephants. Daphne Sheldrick was the first person to study the movement pattern of elephant herds and the first person to rescue and hand-rear orphaned elephants. Most of the baby elephants are there because their mothers have been killed by hunters, due to the rise in ivory poaching. Other babies have either been lost in the wild or have been separated from their mothers for unknown reasons. The African elephant calves are hand-reared here with the intention of gradually reintroducing them into the wild once they are strong enough to survive.
After that you shall be transferred to one of Nairobi Restaurants for lunch before proceeding to The Giraffe Centre.
The Giraffe Centre
This is a core breeding centre for the endangered Rothschild’s giraffes. You will get to learn more about their adaptations, conservation efforts and you have a chance to hand-feed them on a raised platform.
